Library

The term library has been changed over the years. In the beginning it was known as the storehouse of books, which contains knowledge. Basing on this concept the great Indian librarian Late S. R. Rangnathan devised the five lows of library science in the early 1930's. The laws are -
1. Books are for use.
2. Every book its reader.
3. Every reader his/her books.
4. Save the time of the reader and the staff.
5. Library is a growing organization.

The whole world library scenario has been change after these laws were framed and over the years the concept has also been changed. Library once regarded as the storehouse of books, has been changed to information centers from where the information is disseminated. Basing on this concept the term 'books' has been changed to 'information' and Dr. Ganesh Bhattacharya, a great disciple of Late Dr. S. R. Rangnathan has little modified the terms of the laws to suit the present concept which states-

1. Information is for use
2. Every information has its seeker
3. Every seeker of information has his/her information
4. Right information at the right time to save the time.
5. Information centre is a growing organizer.
