Counseling & Guidance
Counseling & Guidance Cell
Mrs Mahalakshmi Rajgopal, a qualified counselor visits the school thrice a week for 4-5 hours. She focuses on identifying students with learning difficulties, attention deficit disorders and intellectually deficient children. The identified children are referred for psychological assessment. Based on the results of the assignments, she counsels the children, parents and concerned teachers. She also suggests remedial measures. Periodical follow up of each of these children are conducted.
Children with behaviour problems are referred to the counselor. She conducts an in depth interview of the child and his/her parents to identify the root cause of the problem behaviour. Based on the findings, she either refers them for assignments of disruptive disorders or offers behaviour modification techniques to be followed in school and at home.
Understanding the requirements of the students of the higher classes, she also pitches in as a career councelor. She provides the students with details regarding career options. She meets the parents and students together and discusses suitable career options. She also addresses students on career related issues, organizes guest speakers.
Besides all this, the counselor periodically addresses our students of different classes on topics such as :
- goal setting
- study technique
- emotion management
- self enhancement
- wholistic health
The teachers too are benefited to a great extent as now they are getting an answer for the poor performance of many of their students. They are also finding improvements in those students who are seeking remedial measures.
The school on the whole is experiencing some difference at different levels due to the counseling cell.
